Compounding Pharmacy (Philadelphia, PA)

Greets all!

My first rotation of many was located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at The Art of Medicine. This specific location is a compounding pharmacy and we compounded both hazardous and non-hazardous drugs. The Art of Medicine takes pride in their ability to compound veterinary medicine, engage in personalized hormonal therapy, and dermatological needs.

When I first arrived to the site, I had to learn how to assemble different types of machinery, capsule machines, perform potency tests and wait for them to be analyzed and accepted/within range. This was a precaution that the site required every student to do prior to sending final products out to patients.

This site was unique in that they ship their products all over the United States, so there was little patient interaction unless is was over the phone. I would highly recommend this site, as I was able to experience unusual compounded products to treat various therapies. It made me realize how far medicine has come and what we can do for the future of pharmacy as a whole.
