Augusta Regional Clinic: where everyone has access to the healthcare services they need

During my time at Augusta Regional Clinic Pharmacy, I was able to use the knowledge I had gained from didactic coursework and apply it to patients in the ambulatory care setting. Augusta Regional Clinic is in Fishersville, VA located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. This clinic provides high‐quality medical, dental, pharmacy and health education services to the residents of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. ARC sees a wide variety of patients, many whom are the sickest of the sick and do not have medical insurance. They are able to provide services to those who do not have health insurance and who meet the basic eligibility guidelines through the hard work of volunteers and staff with the passion to improve the health of their community. Additionally, a patient may be employed full or part time, unemployed, or a full time college student who meet the income guidelines of 200% of the Federal poverty level.

On this rotation, I was actively involved in the care plan for the patients through daily consultation with the MDs and FNPs. My input was valued and respected by the clinicians, and I truly felt a part of the healthcare team. I was able to provide a wide range of services that include vaccinations, physical exams such as diabetic foot exams, and I counseled each patient about their medications. The entire staff at ARC were extremely welcoming and friendly. If I ever had a question, they were more than willing to help me find the answer. My preceptor was Benn Legum R.Ph. He was very knowledgeable and was a great teacher to learn from. He spoke very highly of our school, and he loves having ACP students there to help care for patients. I would highly recommend this rotation to anyone interested in giving back to the community. It was a great environment to apply your classroom knowledge and strengthen your clinical skills. You are looked upon by the clinicians for all pertinent medication and pharmacy related questions. The recommendations you provide are truly valued and taken into consideration when developing a comprehensive, patient-centered treatment plan for every patient. If you are looking for a great ambulatory care or elective rotation where you can get a full clinical care experience, this site is a great one to consider.
